UV Technology in Lecture Halls

dissol GmbH and UV Alliance Bring UV Knowledge to Universities

From Theory to Practice

How does UV disinfection work? What factors determine whether a UV system operates reliably and sustainably? And what role can UV technology play in the water treatment challenges of tomorrow?

These are exactly the questions at the heart of a joint initiative by dissol GmbH and UV Alliance: together, we are bringing knowledge about UV technology directly into universities, and with it to the engineers and specialists of tomorrow.

Making UV Technology Understandable and Practical

UV technology is long established in water treatment. The effect of UV-C light on microorganisms has been known for over a century.

However, turning that knowledge into a functioning system requires in-depth expertise. This is exactly where our lectures come in: students should not only understand how UV disinfection works, but also how to develop a reliable and efficient treatment system. After all, a high-performance UV system is the result of the interplay of several disciplines, from optics and microbiology to chemistry and hydraulics, all the way to process engineering.

Sustainability in Water Treatment

Water scarcity, trace substances, and energy consumption are putting increasing pressure on our water systems. Sustainable solutions for water treatment are therefore in demand. Our lectures also address this aspect in detail. To assess sustainability, we always consider the life cycle assessment of the entire system: energy consumption, water quality, pretreatment, operating costs, material use, and service life.

Knowledge for the Water Treatment of Tomorrow

The challenges of water treatment are becoming more complex. At the same time, new opportunities are emerging through technological developments and the combination of different processes.

It is important to us that our lectures convey a holistic view of UV technology. For students, this means they get to know the technology as part of an interdisciplinary system in which physics, microbiology, chemistry, fluid mechanics, and engineering interlock, thus forming the shared foundation for modern water treatment.

One example is a lecture at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences in Bottrop. There, Kaspar Groot Kormelinck of UV Alliance demonstrated how theoretical fundamentals become concrete applications in water treatment.

Are you interested in a lecture or presentation on UV technology and its applications? UV Alliance offers universities the opportunity to request UV experts free of charge for such events.

We look forward to passing on our UV knowledge to the next generation, engaging in dialogue with you, and shaping the water treatment of tomorrow together.
