UV Alliance founded: centre of excellence for UV technology in the water sector

Founding of the UV Alliance

The UV Alliance was officially launched on 1 February 2025. It sees itself as an international centre of excellence for UV technology in water treatment.

The initiative was founded by four companies that have been active in the field of UV-C water treatment for many years. dissol GmbH is also part of the alliance. All the companies involved have decades of experience in the UV market.

The aim of the UV Alliance is to pool and further develop knowledge on UV technology, and to contribute to a sustainable water cycle.

Background to the founding

Ton van Remmen, owner of Van Remmen UV Technology, explains the motivation behind the founding:

“I am convinced of UV technology and its positive effects. At the same time, I see a lot of misunderstanding in the market. There is a significant gap between the technology’s actual potential and what is known about it. With the UV Alliance, we want to close this gap and make its true impact visible.”

The alliance aims to help reduce existing knowledge gaps and make the application of UV technology in water treatment more transparent.

Aims and approach of the UV Alliance

A central element of the UV Alliance is the open exchange of specialist knowledge, as well as collaboration based on practical experience.

The focus here is not only on the technology itself, but above all on its economic and environmental benefits. Decisions in the market are still often made on too narrow a technical basis, without taking the bigger picture into account.

The UV Alliance therefore pursues a holistic approach:

  • developing practice-oriented business models
  • assessing potential savings in water, energy and operating costs
  • promoting sustainable solutions in the water sector

The aim is to establish UV technology more firmly as a building block of efficient and sustainable water management.

Practical examples of application

A particular focus of the UV Alliance is on real-world use cases from practice.

UV water disinfection is familiar to many as an additional microbiological treatment step in drinking water treatment. Beyond this, however, the technology is used in numerous other areas.

One example is its use in swimming pools:

Here, UV technology helps make operations more efficient and sustainable. Less frequent backwashing reduces water consumption, while at the same time lowering the energy required for water heating.

The benefits at a glance:

  • reduced water consumption
  • lower energy costs
  • less combined chlorine in the water
  • improved water quality and greater hygiene safety

Roadshow and international presence

The UV Alliance operates in a specialised and knowledge-intensive market environment. To make the significance of UV technology accessible to a wider professional audience, the alliance takes part in international trade events.

One highlight is Aquatech Amsterdam. The UV Alliance will be presenting there on Wednesday, 12 March, from 1:45pm to 2:30pm, on the Industrial Stage in Hall 12.

The aim of the roadshow is to provide practical insights into UV technology and to further strengthen its role in modern water management.

Growth plans

The UV Alliance was founded with four core members and aims to expand by welcoming further UV-related companies. To make this possible, a foundation has been established to manage the UV community. Foundation members organise events, develop in-depth knowledge articles and maintain the digital platform.

The UV Alliance regularly provides updates on UV technology via its website and its own YouTube channel. We are also happy to answer any questions in person
